It has been a while since I last posted a Money Saving Apps and Sites post. This one has been waiting a while, but I have been a tad bit busy with a small business idea I have been working on.

So LatestFreeStuff.co.uk is a website but also provides apps for both the apple and android platforms. And is crammed full of freebies!

Commercial samples, perfumes, beauty, food, snacks - they have it all. In essence its a group effort to find and collate all sorts of freebies available on the web. All of the links are vetted and double checked, so you wont be scammed.

However, as you've probably learned from reading some of the previous SmartWallet articles, we would strongly recommend that you set up a new free email address, which will give you a google+ profile, and you can use that to setup a free facebook and twitter account. That should give you all the accounts you will need to claim freebies on this site or elsewhere. The free social media accounts are a good way to avoid having to remember so many usernames/passwords for sites - although you can use a generic username/password across most sites giving away freebies.

This disposable account stops spam and all the mailing lists you will get signed up for. Thats the only reason why all these companies are giving away free samples - so they can market more stuff at you - didn't you know?

Other than this caveat, the site is a great place to pick up small freebies. I don't check everyday, but when I do once a week or fortnight, I usually pick up several freebies. Today I have got myself a free sample of Aveeno Moisturising cream, Pantene shampoo, a 'skinaid' sample, a Venus razor for the missus, a free bar of Cadbury's chocolate, and a free ebook download. Not bad for 10 minutes of surfing the web.

This time round we will be looking at a great free site called Free Postcode Lottery.

What is it? Its a free lottery which randomly selects a postcode daily. If your postcode is selected you win the pot (which at the moment is £40 a day, but this rolls over if the winner does not collect it within 24 hours). Recently they have had their highest ever payout of £320. So go and join the site with your postcode, and remember it could be you!

If multiple people from the same postcode win (i.e. you and your neighbour), only the claimants get the prize split evenly between you. If anyone forgets to claim within 24 hours, they lose out of their share of the pot.


The site is paid for by adverts, but after having used it for a few months, I assure you there is no malware or adware on the site. It is run by one generous person and it is pretty automated. You get a draw reminder everyday by email (you can opt out of emails), click the link and check the postcode.
If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there is a mini £10 draw at the bottom of the page, so you might win £10 on any day - even if you do not win the main prize that day..

But wait, that's not all, for every day you visit you get a penny added to 'your' bonus. You can increase this bonus by doing a whole host of things. Current bonus boosting tasks include, shopping at tesco through a referral link on the site for an extra £5, liking them on facebook, referring friends and booking train tickets. It may not seem like a lot, but some people have bonuses of £30 just waiting to be picked up. Should you win, you get paid the bonus alongside your winnings.

This post will focus on the amazing Hot UK Deals website.

This is a site that lets users post 'deals' and bargains, they find across any number of categories (mobiles, restaurants, kids, fashion, home, entertainment and so on). And other users get to see these deals, and vote on them (hot or cold) - depending on how good the deal is compared to the market value of the item.

The site also has a freebies and vouchers section that I frequent. A quick flick through the site, shows up some surprisingly good finds, and the comments can be quite insightful when purchasing an unfamiliar item. There are occasional trolls, but for the most part, you can learn of alternatives and how other people find the same item cheaper or even find amusing ways to use them. I have learnt a lot about frugality and money saving and tonnes of consumer advice from the vast number of commenters on the site. The search feature is great when you are looking for a specific item, for say a birthday or anniversary.

The downsides that I have found, is that it is possible to get addicted to the site and paying more than your budget allows for items that seem like a bargain. But if your disciplined and keep an eye out for things like fuel deals, money off vouchers and buy things that you will need (like washing powder or light bulbs), your guaranteed to save money.

Best of all, the site is view able on your computer or tablet/phone (there is a mobile app available too). This makes the site a brilliant way to while away a bit of time (when you've nothing better to do), and save a few quid on your essentials (or that unnecessary but cheap second laptop...).
